Pride Craft Night

Adults are invited to mark this LGBTQIA+ Pride Month with an arts and crafts night!  You'll have several crafts to choose from and the chance to hang out with friends and neighbors in an affirmative environment. We have wooden rainbows to paint, customizable buttons, and things to make your own mini Pride float. Thursday, June 12, 6:30 - 7:30 PM at the Brighton Branch. No registration required. All materials are free. Some craft supplies, like the wooden rainbows, are limited in number.

Movie Mondays: The King's Speech (2011)

Start your week off with a movie! November's featured film is The King's Speech starring Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush, and Helena Bonham Carter. About the movie: Stuttering King George "Bertie" VI finds his confidence with the help of unconventional speech therapist Lionel Logue. Over time, the king and Lionel forge an unlikely bond that helps shape the United Kingdom's future when the nation is drawn into World War II. Run time: 1 hours 59 minutes. Start your week off with a movie! Practical Magic (1998) stars Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. Based on the novel by Alice Hoffman. About the film: In a small, contemporary New England town, for two sisters from a family of witches, falling in love is the trickiest spell of all. They struggle to use their gift for magically guiding fate to overcome their family curse: The men they fall in love with are doomed to an untimely death! Run time: 1 hours 48 minutes. Rated: PG-13. Horror Authors Panel

Join some of the horror's most revered and highly lauded luminaries for an evening of thrills and chills where we discuss the history, social impact, and future of the horror genre. Just in time for Halloween! Featured panelists include award-nominated authors such as Paul Tremblay (author of <a href="https://bpl.bibliocommons.com/item/show/8749444075">Horror Movie</a>), Gretchen Felker-Martin (author of <a href="https://bpl.bibliocommons.com/item/show/8773706075">Cuckoo</a>), Emmett Nahil (author of <a href="https://bpl.bibliocommons.com/item/show/17082197981">From the Belly</a>), Emily C. Hughes (author of <a href="https://bpl.bibliocommons.com/item/show/8880822075">Horror for Weenies</a>), and Corey Farrenkopf (author of Living in Cemeteries). This event is generously sponsored by the Horror Writers of Association (<a href="https://horror.org/">HWA</a>). HWA is a nonprofit organization of writers and publishing professionals around the world, dedicated to promoting dark literature, the interests of those who write it, and an appreciation of good horror and dark fantasy literature in readers.

Start your week off with a movie!  On Monday October 7, we will be showing A Haunting in Venice (2023), starring Kenneth Branagh. Loosely based on the 1969 Agatha Christie novel Hallowe'en Party. About the film: Now retired and living in self-imposed exile in the world's most glamorous city, Poirot reluctantly attends a sǎnce at a decaying, haunted palazzo. When one of the guests is murdered, the detective is thrust into a sinister world of shadows and secrets. Run time: 1 hours 43 minutes. Rated: PG-13. English subtitles. No registration required. Movie Night: The Princess Bride (1987)

Join us at the Brighton Branch for an evening movie screening of The Princess Bride (1987). A kid, home sick from school, grudgingly allows his grandfather to read him a dusty storybook. What misadventures will befall the beautiful Buttercup and her true love, Westley? Run time: 1 hour 38 minutes. Rated PG. English subtitles.

Board Game Night

Adults are invited to come chill and play board games at the library! Bring a friend or meet a new one. The Brighton Branch has just started building our collection for board game cafés.&nbsp;We have games for quick rounds like Uno and One Night Ultimate Werewolf, party games like Coup and Wavelength, and games to settle down with like Root and Castles of Mad King Ludwig.

Board Game Café: Featuring an Original Game!

Adults are invited to chill and play board games at the library. Bring a friend or meet a new one. Our collection currently includes games like Uno, Coup, Ticket to Ride, Castles of Mad King Ludwig, Root, and Pinochle. On August 10, we will also be featuring Jaela Horton, the creator of a brand new game: Black Box! This game is still in development and needs test players. If you're interested in test playing a collaborative and secretive game, email kluca@bpl.org to secure a spot. About Black Box: Oblivious allies or astute opponents? In Black Box, you’ll have to decide as you are blindly placed into teams by answering a question, not knowing for certain who or how many is on your side until the very end. Discuss answers, explain your reasoning, defend your words, then point someone out but be aware - if you vote out a team mate, you are one vote closer to being voted out yourself!
